“[Evolution is] a theory that’s out there. It’s got some gaps in it. In Texas, we teach both creationism and evolution in our public schools. Because I figure you’re smart enough to figure out which one is right.”

President Bush to Appear on Second Game Show

April 26, 2008 (WASHINGTON) - The White House announced that President Bush will appear as a contestant on FOX Television's game show "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" The president made a videotaped appearance on the April 21 broadast of NBC's "Deal or No Deal" game show to offer thanks and wish good luck to contestant Joseph Kobes, an army captain and decorated Iraq war veteran.

Mr. Bush's popularity ratings have reached record lows in recent weeks. According to White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, the president "got a kick out of" his TV appearance, and decided that it might be fun to be an actual contestant. "We also hope this will restore the public's confidence in him," Perino added, smiling nervously.

Asked why he chose this particular game show, Mr. Bush told reporters, "This will settle for once and for the question on everyone's mind: Is I smarter than a fifth grader? I think the answer is 'yes,' but I could be wrong. I have been wrong once before, with that WMD thing. Heh-heh. Plus I want this to be part of what you call my legacy. I want to be the president who makes game show history, win or lose. And as you know, I never admit defeat."
