“[Evolution is] a theory that’s out there. It’s got some gaps in it. In Texas, we teach both creationism and evolution in our public schools. Because I figure you’re smart enough to figure out which one is right.”

--Texas Gov. Rick Perry, responding to a question from an eighth grader about evolution.

Obama Disappoints in First Week

January 28, 2009 (WASHINGTON) - President Barack Obama’s first week in office was a disappointment to many of his most ardent supporters, despite the fact that the new president has already begun reversing some Bush administration policies.

“I dunno,” said Chicago resident Jeremy Jackson. “I just expected more. I thought things would be, like, totally different once he took over. But I still don’t have a job and Obama hasn’t brought peace and prosperity to the entire world. I mean, what’s the holdup?”

Seventy-three-year-old Emily Dickerson of Nashville, Tennessee, also expressed disappointment. “I have breast cancer. My daughter drove me to the inauguration, where I hoped that basking in Barack’s presence would cure me. We stood for hours in the cold to see him, but he looked like a faraway speck. And I still have cancer. Maybe we just didn’t get close enough. But surely the radiance of his goodness stretches further than the horizon.”

Republicans are also skeptical. Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania said, “I have yet to see him walk on water. Perhaps he’s not everything he was cracked up to be.”
