PETA Reacts to Obama Fly Swat
June 18, 2009 (Washington) – The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) voiced strong objection to President Barack Obama’s now-famous swatting of a fly during an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood at the White House on Tuesday.
"Get out of here," the president told the pesky insect. When it didn't, he waited for the fly to settle, put his hand up and then smacked it dead.
"Now, where were we?" Obama asked Harwood. Then he added: "That was pretty impressive, wasn't it? I got the sucker."
In response to Obama’s cold-blooded fly killing, PETA is planning a new “Stop the Fly Genocide” campaign.
“We want compassion for the smallest animals among us,” said PETA spokesman Sunny Love. “Houseflies are just like tiny people—tiny people with wings who eat shit and breed by leaving their eggs in corpses and other disgusting places to hatch into maggots. But really, human babies are pretty ugly at birth, too.”
PETA plans to produce anti-fly-killing ads starring the Jonas Brothers, who have taken a vow of chastity, with the slogan “Hands Off My Fly.”
